Yavor Bozhankov: We are going to elections because of our fundamental difference with GERB on the judicial system

"Everything is decided precisely through elections. The myths that embassies decided the mandates and governments in our country have been destroyed. If that were the case, we would not be in another election cycle now. If the elections did not decide anything, the parties would not be fighting for the trust of voters," commented the MP from PP-DB

The decision of GERB to send Bulgaria to elections is a risk for our entry into the Eurozone. This is what Yavor Bozhankov from PP-DB said in "Focus Day" on Radio "Focus". "Bulgaria was far from the Schengen area, now we are already flying into it - the disagreement remains only on one side and we are at arm's length from Schengen by land borders. The way out of the political crisis is for the general public to decide once and for all how Bulgaria wants to develop," Bozhankov also said.

In his words, the constitutional reform must be followed by the adoption of a special law and its implementation. " GERB decided to go to the elections before this law became a fact. It is also unclear what will happen to the Supreme Judicial Council, whose mandate has expired. We had a management agreement with GERB for 18 months - they broke it off in the middle and this creates risks of falling into a crisis situation", the PP-DB politician clarified.

"The changes in the judiciary are indisputable. We gave the Bulgarians the right to attack texts of the laws before the Constitutional Court - this has always been a problem. We gave independence to the judges who were in a joint body with the prosecutors and the attorney general imposed his will. That's over, we've cut his powers and we've put in place an investigative process," he recalled.

"Regarding the powers of the service cabinet, I see a gap in not passing a special law for the service cabinet. However, I think the philosophy of the changes is correct. If we step back and do a bird's-eye view analysis, it can be seen that we have tried to build a dialogue with people we don't just hate. After 5 elections, we saw that there is no other choice - Bulgaria is bigger than any party feud. This attempt failed and this is the big picture - how do we continue now?", asked Bozhankov.

He is adamant that we are going to elections not because Maria Gabriel was offended so much by one line of Asen Vassilev. "The reason is our fundamental difference with GERB on the judicial system. When we had to elect a new SJC, a new chief prosecutor, GERB refused to take this step. It's logical that when they don't have the power to force us to follow them, and we don't have that power either, they decided to ask for the voters' trust," added the interlocutor.

"Everything is decided precisely through elections. Myths that embassies decided mandates and governments in our country have collapsed. If that were the case, we wouldn't be in another election cycle now. If the elections did not decide anything, the parties would not be fighting for the trust of the voters in a few months. There may be an outflow of citizens from the polls, but every citizen must realize that elections are a responsibility. This is our duty and if we have to set aside 15 minutes a year or a month for Bulgaria, we must exercise this right and responsibility. I can't imagine how someone would delegate dual rights to someone else, who may be uninformed or paid by refusing to release the ballot," explained Yavor Bozhankov.

"Imagine that we wake up and our people vote like the French - 80%. Maybe then a pro-Russian party will not enter the parliament, GERB will not have the electoral weight they have now. However, no politician can force people to vote, even by law," Bozhankov said.

He pointed out that the agreement also included reforms of services and regulators. "GERB wanted to keep them as they are. The services in our country are engaged not with national security, but with espionage scandals. Regulators should work against the cartels. These core themes remain the focus of PP-DB, we can take damages for the compromises we have made in pursuit of these goals. I am certainly convinced that the decisions we made were in the interest of the country," Bozhankov is convinced.

"How the statistics look - For the first time, Bulgaria is not the most corrupt country in the EU, nor the poorest in terms of purchasing power - it is now Hungary. For the first time, more Bulgarians are returning to our country than leaving. Bad news is spent more", said the politician.

According to him, there is already a figure who has assumed the responsibility of being prime minister.

"The nominated Dimitar Glavchev is obviously the choice of the president - this is the authority of the head of state. Let's see what kind of cabinet he will broadcast and then judge", Bozhankov also said.
