Forensic medical expertise to clarify whether the patient was operated on in Burgas, the lawyer said

It is unlikely that an endoscopic operation will not leave any a scar on the patient's body.

This was stated by lawyer Dr. Maria Petrova to NOVA. She commented on the case of a woman discharged from hospital with epicrisis for an endoscopic operation that was not performed. The patient demonstrated in front of the NOVA camera that there is no sign of such an intervention.

It is necessary to have a forensic medical examination and ascertain whether what is written in the epicrisis is true, the lawyer recommended. “Even if there was a minimal scar, it cannot recover in a short period”, explained Petrova.

„There is the creation of a document with false content about the woman's state of health, which is a separate crime. The Health Insurance Fund must intervene to check whether the indications are present, to check if such an operation has not been performed and there are other violations, the contract of this medical facility can be terminated. With the current inadequate medical standards, I don't expect a particular result from an inspection by the Medical Supervision”, said Petrova.

She recommended that the prosecutor's office also intervene. “It is always possible to make a mistake, but in Bulgaria we do not have an adequate health record,” added Maria Petrova.

Petrova was adamant that no one has the right to disclose sensitive health information about the patient without the patient's consent. “Nobody has given consent for the patient's diagnosis to be made public. With such statements, it is unacceptable for a doctor to increase the stigma on all patients who suffer from any psychiatric illness or take medication. Tomorrow, each of us can be damned”, said the lawyer.

„We have no doubt at this stage before we have seen an examination by psychiatrists, we accept what she said as true. It is possible that a technical error was made in the hospital, but this is not the way to publicize and strengthen the stigma around patients,” added lawyer Maria Petrova.
