Nadezhda Tsekulova: In a year or two, there may be two absolutely unnecessary hospitals in the Sofia municipality

Our claims are to the state, said the representative of the Public Council for the construction of a National Children's Hospital in Sofia

Our claims are to the state, which constantly sends mixed messages and leaves the impression that it is unable to guarantee, as it is under the Constitution, people's right to health care.

This is what Nadezhda Tsekulova from the Public Council for the Construction of a National Children's Hospital in Sofia told the BNR.

"Unfortunately, in real situations, we witness different factors and each one is surmountable, and it is good if the state does not cope, why should a private person not build a children's hospital? I believe that the state could handle it if the political will is found. And all the parties that listed children's healthcare as a priority in their programs, stop competing on this ground. And every next ruler should stop canceling what the previous one did and create a consistent policy," commented Cekulova.

She was categorical that the National Children's Hospital is talked about in two contexts: "The first is when there is a serious scandal and the second is before elections."

According to her, the scandal with the decision of the MC and its cancellation for a new, private children's hospital is a factor that also influenced the project to build a National Children's Hospital by the state.

"It will further complicate the process, because the creation of a medical facility, such as the NDP, is a complex and complex task, which the Bulgarian state has not faced for many years,", warned the representative of the Public Council.

According to her, the good thing is that "for the first time since there is continuity of the process, this purposeful effort to have the NDB, and we see that the state is having serious difficulties to cope. To be clear, "everyone says you are pure communists, how are you against private initiative", no, we are not! Private initiative in healthcare has proven its place and benefit. We all know the specifics of both types of medical facilities - private and state, each has pros and cons. It is important that the state has a public resource of funds and personnel in the field of health care, and it must, through regulation and policies, decide what is its priority, develop and do it properly.", Nadezhda Tsekulova explained.

She predicts that the Commerce League has already won one case in which it appealed against a refusal by the Ministry of Health for a new hospital.

"And if even now he wins in court overturning the decision of the Court of Justice for a children's hospital, it may turn out that in a year or two there will be two hospitals in the municipality of Sofia, which are absolutely unnecessary," commented Cekulova.
