The traditional water lighting of the battle flags and sacred flags took place today in The Day of Courage and a holiday of the Bulgarian Army - May 6, St. Alexander Nevsky Square, BTA reported.
President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Rumen Radev took part in the solemn ritual and accepted the rank of honor of the representative guard units. Among those present were also Rositsa Kirova, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Acting Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov, Mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev, Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov, senior officers of the Bulgarian Army, as well as representatives of the state leadership, of military-patriotic unions, diplomats.
The head of state laid a wreath in front of the Monument to the Unknown Warrior, after which a solemn march of the representative blocks of the Armed Forces took place.
The consecration of the battle flags and the holy flags was performed by the Deputy Chairman of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, His Eminence Metropolitan Gregory of Vratsa. The flag platoon of the National Guard unit took part in the ritual with the sacred flags and representative blocks.
During the performance of the national anthem during the raising of the battle flags, 20 artillery salutes were fired. At the end of the solemn ritual above the “Alexander Nevsky“ three MiG-29 fighters flew over.
