There is no peace! At the Elin Pelin Station, rumbles are still heard

The most important thing is to rethink how far from populated areas such facilities should be

11 days after the explosions in the pyrotechnics warehouse near Elin Pelin, people from houses near the accident say that they can still hear rumblings.

The partial state of emergency was lifted today. Investigations at the scene are ongoing.

During the day, there were police and fire departments in the area of the explosions. More than 10 days after the explosions, the perimeter around the warehouse remains cordoned off.

„At night it sounds and smells very strange – maybe some chemicals, a mixture of some kind. When the wind blows and it starts to thunder again. No one says anything, every miracle in three days. No one is talking, no police are passing by, maybe it has quieted down for them, but we are not calm yet”, Karina tells BTV.

The woman's home was among those damaged in the blasts on July 25.

„The damage is to the terrace - it is a thick glass unit, the inner part is broken. They collected documents, there was a signature. "I hope everything will be fine soon," says the woman.

Karina says they always feared such an incident could happen because the warehouse was too close and they often heard fireworks going off in the area.

The concerns of the people of Elin Pelin Station are well-founded, says the mayor of the municipality Ivaylo Simeonov.

“The most important thing is to rethink at what distance from populated areas such facilities should be. "If the wind had not been from the west, the damage would have been extremely severe," he points out.

Claims have been completed and funds are expected to be paid out by the end of August. For this purpose, an extraordinary municipal council was convened on August 22, explained the mayor of Elin Pelin.

The incident at the pyrotechnic warehouses took place on July 25 and claimed four lives. There were explosions and then a fire. The 48-year-old associate professor Petar Shishkov and his 20-year-old daughter Christina were injured. They were transported to “Pirogov”, where they later died.
