Dispute between the residents of Gara Elin Pelin village and the local municipality about when to hold a meeting to discuss compensation for the damage caused by the explosions.
Nearly two weeks ago – on July 25, a fire broke out and there were a series of powerful explosions in pyrotechnic warehouses in the area.
There are about 70 houses in the village affected by the accident. Applications for compensation are submitted until August 8.
At the insistence of the crisis headquarters, the meeting with the residents was scheduled for this evening. However, some of them want it to be held on Thursday and accuse the local administration of deliberateness and unwillingness to communicate.
The residents of the village claim that they did not have time to react to the invitation to the meeting.
„In the afternoon yesterday, a letter arrived in which they want a meeting for Thursday, to which I do not object, but we have done everything according to the law for today, and we will go on Thursday as well. "Our attitude is already in August, when the extraordinary session of the municipal council is convened, to cover half of the costs involved in the incident," commented the mayor of Elin Pelin, Ivaylo Simeonov.
The fire in the fireworks warehouses broke out on the evening of July 25 and claimed 4 lives. Due to ongoing explosions, the main road to the village of Elin Pelin Station remained closed for 9 days.
The cause of the tragic accident is still unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
