Night races with cars and motorcycles will be among the goals of the upcoming Road Safety Days in September, writes “Telegraph“.
The campaign, which runs across Europe every year from 16 to 22 September, is organized by the European Road Police Service Network (ROADPOL), of which the local Road Police is a member.
This year, the campaign will go under the general preventive goal of combating aggression on the road. “It is about all forms of aggression, mainly on the part of the drivers, but not only, but also on the part of other road users” from the traffic police. Among the topics of the preventive campaign will be aggressive driving, tire burning, forcing motorcycles, driving under the influence of drugs, not respecting the speed limit in populated areas and residential areas, as well as unregulated racing on roads open to public use. As part of the preparations for the campaign, the traffic police have informed their European partners about the measures they take against aggressive driving and how they sanction it. The target of the campaign will be young drivers (18-30 years old), who most often practice dangerous stunts.
The “Safety Days” campaign has been organized since 2019 in ROADPOL member countries. Its purpose is to popularize the so-called “Vision Zero“ – the drive to reduce road deaths in Europe to zero. Currently, the European Union has set the year 2050 as a deadline by which the victims of accidents must remain in history. 2030 is the deadline in which the member countries must reduce the victims by half compared to 2019. Within the framework of the campaign, a specific day is determined in which the efforts of the authorities and society must be directed towards achieving zero. This year, at the European level, September 18 is chosen for the purpose.
