For the ninth consecutive year, sparrows are being counted throughout the country. The initiative is from the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. No matter how accustomed we are to their presence, sparrows turn out to be one of the most important birds.
Stoycho Stoychev of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds has been part of this organization for many years, writes Nova TV. He says that the population is decreasing, and the sparrows themselves are divided into three species. The most endangered is the house sparrow - by 50%. In addition to it, we can also see the Polish and Spanish sparrows in our country. "Sparrows are our ambassadors because they help us attract people's interest in birds and nature conservation," says Stoychev.
Since they feed mainly on insects, and their numbers are decreasing both in Europe and throughout the world, the population of the little gray birds is also decreasing.
