Zhelyazkov and the head of the BNB supported the introduction of the euro from January 1, 2026.

According to the Prime Minister, the coalition is stable and firmly stands behind the government

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and the governor of the Bulgarian National Bank signed a position today in support of the introduction of the euro in our country from January 1, 2026.

„It confirms all actions taken by both the executive branch and the BNB, based on the decisions of the National Assembly from previous years in support of measures to achieve the conditions for convergence, as well as for the introduction of the euro with all protective mechanisms for Bulgarian society, as of January 1, 2026. The point is to reassure our partners in the EU that Bulgaria values the rule of law, that it is a state governed by the rule of law and will fulfill its commitments. We must respect the efforts of Bulgarian society over the past 20 years,” the Prime Minister stressed. He explained that every MP can sign the position of the cabinet and the BNB for weight before the European institutions.

"Bulgaria values the rule of law and is a state governed by the rule of law. The position of the Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova, which she took through her act, deserves admiration because it is in line with the principles of the rule of law," noted Zhelyazkov, after the Speaker of the Parliament rejected Radev's proposal to hold a referendum on the euro as inadmissible.

I believe that this issue, which caused great concern in the democratic community of the country, is already behind us, concluded the Prime Minister on the issue of President Radev's proposal to hold a public consultation.

The statement came after the meeting of the Council for Joint Governance in the National Assembly. Zhelyazkov was also present at the meeting of the partners in power. He stated that the SSU discussed the legislative program of the government and the coalition for the first half of the year. The goal is for the cabinet to receive assurance that the majority in parliament and their coalition partners from "There is such a people" and "BSP-United Left" will stand behind these bills and the priorities that are related to the program for governing Bulgaria. "Today I was once again convinced that the coalition is stable and firmly stands behind the government", the Prime Minister emphasized.

Zhelyazkov pointed out that during the Joint Governance Council, the legislative program for April - June of this year was presented, as well as the 55 bills envisaged in the legislative program, the degree of their implementation, public discussions, interdepartmental coordination and deadlines for submission to the Council of Ministers, respectively to the National Assembly.
