The problem with distrust in the institutions in Bulgaria is huge. In this case in Varna we see this again. The law is very strict, it simply has to be applied. This was stated by the former Speaker of the National Assembly and former Minister of the Interior Mihail Mikov in the program “The Day Live“ on Nova News.
We see what is happening in the National Assembly, and we are surprised by the actions of the police. Let the police wear body cameras in the toilets and in the pre-trial detention center. They didn't have batteries – give them a five and take pictures continuously. Such cases periodically arise, we periodically talk about legislative changes, at the same time the problems remain until the next time, he pointed out.
I don't know what political scheming is being talked about, since the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been working for a long time without a chief secretary, that is, without professional leadership. This work with resignations is not going to happen, nor will the problem be solved in three days. It is done with serious analysis and changes. Even if they want to give the salaries of police officers 5,000 or 10,000 leva, if a person feels above the law, he will continue to violate it. Upbringing is formed in the family, in school... If we don't start working systematically, nothing will happen. We are overgrown with administration, agencies, powers, etc. and yet everyone thinks that they will scare the crows with the Criminal Code, explained Mikov.
Usually sanctions affect the lower levels, but not the higher levels in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This case can serve as an occasion to solve systemic problems, the former interior minister believes.
About the illegal homes for the elderly, Mihail Mikov said: “Inhumane treatment has different forms, before that there is a bigger question - why such things exist. Obviously, the state cannot solve the problem of normal care for the elderly. Our healthcare system does not take care of the terminally ill. We are a society of great inequalities. In this case, we are talking about a business with a serious social problem“, he added.
