Restrictive measures and ban on access to Shumen Plateau lifted

There is no certainty that the dangerous predator is currently on the territory of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park

The restrictive measures and ban on access to the forest areas within the boundaries of the Shumen Plateau Nature Park (NP) are lifted after an analysis of the situation surrounding the search for the predator, spotted on June 19 and filmed on a phone video. The decision was made after an extraordinary meeting of the temporary crisis headquarters. This was announced by the press center of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

They note that the institutions directly involved in the measures taken took into account the opinion prepared by the director of the "Central Balkan" National Park, Georgi Krastev. According to him, there is no certainty that the dangerous predator is currently on the territory of the “Shumen Plateau“ nature reserve.

"Our task was to conduct surveillance, establish the presence of the predator and only after receiving information about its location, take action to capture it. For eight days, since a team of specialists has been working in the field, no fresh trace has been found, or a photo from a camera trap. After receiving signals that the animal has been spotted by residents of Shumen and nearby villages in various places, we realize that there is no strictly selected territory or area chosen for living. The predator's movements are chaotic and inconsistent“, said Krastev, quoted by the police press center in Shumen.
