The competition for the awards in the presidential initiative "John Atanasoff Award" - 2025 begins, the press service of the head of state announced. The deadline for applications is September 10, 2025.
The competition is named after the world-famous inventor of Bulgarian origin John Atanasoff - creator of the first electronic digital computer with regenerative memory. Since 2003 - the beginning of the initiative, the "John Atanasoff Award" has been awarded to young Bulgarian scientists and researchers in the field of computer science for their outstanding achievements on a global scale. Among the laureates of the presidential award are heads of research centers of leading research institutes and multinational companies in the world in the field of computer science, the press service informs.
The participants in the 2025 competition will compete for awards in the following categories: the "John Atanasov" award of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria; two "John Atanasov - students and their teachers" diplomas - the first for successes achieved during the year by a student-teacher team in the international Olympiads in Informatics and the second for successes achieved during the year by a student-teacher team in the Olympiads in Information Technologies; the "John Atanasov - project with high public contribution" diploma; the "John Atanasov - debut breakthrough in the field of computer technologies" diploma; diploma “John Atanasov – inspirer and creator of talents”.

The winners of the award and diplomas “John Atanasov“ are determined by a committee consisting of leading scientists and professionals in the field of computer science, the website of the presidential institution states.
