The trial for causing the death of 12-year-old Siyana and bodily injury to the girl's grandfather in an accident near the village of Telish in March 2025 begins. The first hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 8th at the Pleven District Court. This was announced in a post on "Facebook" by Nikolay Popov - Siyana's father.
According to him, if the defendant for causing the fatal accident, Georgi Aleksandrov, pleads guilty, the case could be concluded the same day in a summary procedure.
"I want a quick and effective verdict. The amount of the punishment will be determined by the court, but speed in this case is also of utmost importance," Popov commented.
He calls on those wishing to support the cause "for justice and to stop roadkill to gather in front of the Courthouse in Pleven an hour before the hearing.
"I hope this case will set new principles in Bulgarian justice. All cases in the country should be heard with such speed - especially those for murder. Justice is necessary not only for Siyana and her grandfather, but for all killed and injured Bulgarians. Not in years - but today and now", commented Nikolay Popov.
He also writes that the speedy trial is also a measure against impunity, because everyone would think twice if they knew that they would be held accountable immediately.
"In the first six months alone, 10 Bulgarian children were killed on the road. This is not a personal tragedy. This is the tragedy of over 5,000 killed and 100,000 injured on Bulgarian roads in the last 10 years. This is a national catastrophe," emphasized Nikolay Popov.
