The relevant parliamentary committees approved the changes to the Anti-Corruption Commission on first reading last night, NOVA reported.

The amendments are necessary so that the country can take the final step for the second payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The MPs approved the GERB-SDF proposal, which includes the head of the commission being elected not with a 160-vote qualified majority, but with a simple majority.

"Next Thursday, at a regular meeting of the Commission on Prevention and Counteraction of Corruption, we will provide for a single point, namely the procedural rules for the election of members of the Commission on Counteraction of Corruption. The idea is that the next day, on Friday, in the legislative part before parliamentary control, they will be considered by the National Assembly and adopted. "This way, we will be able to send the executive branch to submit the request for the second payment under the PVU, after we have implemented all the measures," said Raya Nazaryan from GERB-SDF.
