With a little over 600 kg per hectare of average yield, the harvest in Dobrudja has begun. The active harvest is yet to come.

„We are harvesting 25% less than the harvest in 2024. The reason is - frosts in March and April and the hot days after. It is not what we expected, unfortunately“, Radostina Zhekova, chairwoman of the Dobrudja Union of Grain Producers, told bTV.

According to her, based on what is visible in the field, the wheat will not have the same qualities as in 2024.

„Colleagues from the milling business will have to add improvers to make quality bread. Last year's prices were between 400-440 BGN per ton. Currently, they are around 300-340 BGN per ton, which is well below the cost price“, Zhekova added.

“Bulgaria does not influence the price of wheat. The last good year was 2021 – quality and good price. We expect low yields of both corn and sunflower. Another difficult year is ahead for the Agriculture sector. We have been operating at a loss for the fourth year“, Zhekova added.

“There will be wheat for Bulgarian consumption, we produce enough. The price of bread also includes many other things – electricity, fuels, salaries, it will probably lead to an increase in the price, although wheat is cheaper by 100 BGN. per ton“, Radostina Zhekova also said.
