Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant has stopped working for two days

Thermal power plants cannot be switched on at a moment's notice. This is not "on-off", as some people think

Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant has stopped working for two days - since Friday evening, and has been working since this morning, the company's executive director Eng. Chavdar Stoynev told BNR.

Travelers on the Kyustendil-Dupnitsa route reported dust in the area of the power plant. There is no such problem, Eng. commented on this occasion. Stoynev.

The company's management did not say about the reasons for the shutdown of the power plant - whether it was due to urgent repairs or because of the electricity prices on the exchange.

"At peak hour we have, let's say, 5,500 megawatts of consumption, and since there are 3,000 from photovoltaics and 2,000 from "Kozloduy", then all the thermal power plants must now stop. There are some thermal power plants that do not stop, "Maritsa-Iztok 2", as far as I know, even the hydropower plants are not working, and "Kozloduy" is working and the wind farms are working, both the photovoltaics and the thermal power plants must be stopped, it is quite normal. The problem is that in the evening, when the sun hides and 3,000 megawatts from the photovoltaics fall, the thermal power plants cannot be turned on at a second. This is not "on-off", as some people think. This is a period of running for hours, wasting fuel oil, and that's when the black smoke comes out of the chimneys, because the fuel oil burns with black smoke," suggested a specialist, a former worker at the thermal power plant.

In the nearby Golemo Selo they say that during the work at the power plant, the loading and unloading process of coal and others, dust is raised. When there is no draft and wind, a white blanket forms over the village and in the area of the power plant. Periodically, the Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and Environment deploys a mobile station to measure harmful emissions in the center of Golemo Selo. Sanctions are often imposed on the company, with fines reaching 180,000 leva.
