Journalist Ivan Tropankev passed away after a long battle with cancer that lasted more than 12 years, "24 hours" reported.
Tropankev worked for more than a decade at "168 hours".
He was born on December 8, 1951 in Plovdiv. He fought a long-term battle with the serious illness, going through numerous operations and trials.
In 2019, the journalist opened his first photo exhibition. It was through the lens that he began to "speak" in a new way – with images that captured moments of light and silence, writes "Darik".
In 2019, at the opening of his first photo exhibition "After Us and Forever", his wife Ralina Tropankeva, a producer at bTV, spoke about the difficult period with the disease. "I now know that when fate prepares a trap for you, it gives you a little sugar to swallow that bucket of tar that it serves you. This timelessness then lasted 4 days. For the fifth, I had already arranged two consultations with doctors. For the next 6 years, we became one with the entrance to the Military Hospital," Ralina recalled.
It was from the hospital room that Ivan took a step back to life through the lens. At first, he photographed sunrises and sunsets from there. "Then the world through the lens captivated him, and his photos began to tell stories. So good that he finally agreed to show them," his wife revealed.
The teams of "24 hours" and "168 hours" express their condolences to the wife Ralina, daughter Dea, relatives and friends of the deceased journalist.
Ivan Tropankev remains in the memory of his colleagues as a talented journalist with a clear civic position and as a person who found in photography a way to fight the disease and continue to create.
Tropankev posted comments on his Facebook profile. His last post was the song Don’t Tear Me Up by Mick Jagger, beginning with the words: „Life is rich, but somehow too short“.
