Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov will participate in an informal meeting of the defense ministers of the European Union (EU) member states today in Copenhagen, the Kingdom of Denmark, the press center of the Ministry of Defense (MOD) announced.
The event is part of the calendar of the Danish presidency of the Council of the EU.
During the informal meeting, the defense ministers will discuss the EU's military support for Ukraine, the Union's defense readiness, incl. the implementation of the priorities set in the White Paper on European Defence Readiness 2030 and the Rearmament Plan for Europe, and the state of military missions and operations within the framework of the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmygal and the Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defence Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann have been invited to participate in the informal meeting of defence ministers.
In May, EU defence ministers expressed initial intentions to participate in joint projects for the acquisition of priority capabilities during a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, the MoD announced. Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov also participated in the meeting, while his Ukrainian counterpart joined via video conference. Discussions within the forum focused on military support for Ukraine and the Union's defense readiness, with a focus on the proposals set out in the White Paper on European Defense Readiness 2030 and the Rearmament Plan for Europe.
