The Court of Appeal in Veliko Tarnovo will review the measures taken by the four detainees in the case of the beating of police chief Nikolay Kozhuharov.

The charges against them are for hooliganism and causing grievous bodily harm.

A week ago, the District Court in Ruse left them in custody on the grounds that they could hide or commit another crime.

Yesterday, relatives of the detainees protested in front of the court in Ruse. They demanded a new examination of the evidence in the case and the release of the detained 15-year-old Stanislav Alexandrov.

The student's defense has requested that all video recordings be provided – from the cameras in the area, as well as from the body cameras of the police officers.

The protesters in Ruse also demanded the resignation of the director of the regional directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Kozhuharov, who is still in hospital after the incident.

There was also a protest in Sofia. The BOETS association demanded the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs Daniel Mitov.

A few days ago, recordings from the security cameras in the area of the incident were also leaked.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they show that it was the group that provoked the aggression, and according to the defense of the detainees, that an acquaintance of the police chief started first.
