US President Donald Trump intends to meet with leaders of both parties in Congress on September 29 to discuss measures to prevent the federal government from shutting down. This was reported on September 27 by the Associated Press.

Trump will receive at the White House the Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson (Republican from Louisiana), the Republican leader of the Senate John Thune (from South Dakota), as well as the leaders of the Democratic minority in the lower and upper houses of Congress - Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer (both from New York).

On September 23, Trump wrote in Truth Social that he did not intend to meet with the leaders of the Democrats in the US Congress to discuss measures to prevent the shutdown. The head of the Washington administration noted that such a meeting "cannot be productive". He emphasized that the Democrats are making "frivolous and absurd demands" for agreements to further fund the government.

On September 19, Trump admitted the possibility of a shutdown if Republicans and Democrats in Congress do not reach a consensus by October 1 on a bill that provides for the continuation of funding.

On September 19, the Senate rejected two bills to continue funding the federal government. The bill developed by Republicans and approved in the lower house received the support of 48 lawmakers, and the document developed by Democrats in the Senate was supported by 47 lawmakers. Thus, the Senate failed to pass a bill that would prevent the shutdown on October 1.
