The authorities in Munich have temporarily closed the world-famous beer festival "Oktoberfest" due to a bomb threat linked to the explosion this morning in the northern part of the German city, DPA reported, BTA reported.

A statement published on the official website of the municipal authorities states that the decision to keep the festival closed until 5:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. Bulgarian time) is "due to a bomb threat linked to the explosion in northern Munich". The text adds that the authorities have received a threatening letter.

Earlier today, the Munich fire department reported that it had received a call about a fire in a house in the northern district of "Lerchenau" at around 4:40 a.m. Local residents said they heard an explosion and shots. A wounded man was found not far from the burning house, who was later pronounced dead by police.

Meanwhile, emergency services said booby traps were found in the burned-out house, prompting the intervention of sappers. Investigators believe the fire was deliberately set.
