US President Donald Trump's geographical confusion has become the subject of mockery among world leaders at a summit today, writes "Politico", reports BTA.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was filmed joking with French President Emmanuel Macron and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen.

"You should apologize to us because you didn't congratulate us on the peace agreement that President Trump concluded between Albania and Azerbaijan," Rama told Macron, which made Aliyev burst out laughing.

"I'm sorry about that," Macron joked in turn.

Trump has repeatedly confused Armenia with Albania when talking about his efforts to resolve the long-standing tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"I resolved wars that were unsolvable. Azerbaijan and Albania - that went on for many, many years, their prime ministers and presidents were in my office," he said on Fox News last month.

At a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump announced: "We settled Azerbaijan and Albania," misspelling the name of one South Caucasus country and completely confusing the other.

To be clear: Trump brokered an agreement between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House in August, with both sides pledging to end a decades-long struggle and expand ties with Washington. The Republican leader hailed the agreement as a major diplomatic victory, cementing his credentials as he campaigns for the Nobel Peace Prize.

He has repeatedly claimed to have ended seven wars since returning to office this year by acting as a mediator - something that is untrue. Among the conflicts Trump claims to have resolved are the wars between Serbia and Kosovo, as well as between Egypt and Ethiopia. Despite the tensions between the two countries, they have not fought a war recently.

India has rejected the White House's claim that Trump helped de-escalate hostilities with Pakistan in May.

The Armenia-Albania confusion is not the first time Trump has shown questionable knowledge of geography.

He once confused Hungary and Turkey during his 2023 campaign, calling Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban the "leader of Turkey" and saying his country has a "front" with Russia. Neither Turkey nor Hungary has a land border with Russia.

Ahead of a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August, Trump said: "We're going to Russia. It's going to be a big deal." The summit was held in the US state of Alaska.
