Argentine President Millay suffers heavy blow from parliament

Senators overrule president's veto on bills boosting funding for public universities and pediatric healthcare

Argentine senators overruled President Javier Millay's veto on Monday, a blow to the libertarian leader ahead of crucial midterm elections that could determine the future of his economic reform agenda, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The opposition-controlled Senate in Argentina's National Congress (parliament) voted overwhelmingly to override Millay's veto on bills boosting funding for public universities and pediatric healthcare, by 59 to 3 votes and 58 to 4 votes, respectively.

Milley, seeking to implement his austerity measures to shrink the government, believes the new spending will threaten the country's fiscal balance Argentina.
