Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived today on a visit to North Korea, TASS reported, citing its correspondent on the spot, BTA reports.
In his capacity as chairman of the ruling United Russia party in Russia, Medvedev is heading a party delegation that will attend the celebrations in Pyongyang marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) at the invitation of the Central Committee of the WPK.
The anniversary will be marked on Friday. The ruling party in North Korea is led by state leader Kim Jong-un.
Other foreign guests are also expected to arrive in Pyongyang, including Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Tho Lam.
In recent years, Russia and North Korea have strengthened their cooperation, with North Korean soldiers taking part in the liberation of the Kursk region on the border, which was partially occupied by Ukrainian troops.
