The phone call between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin shows that the Russian leader is yielding to pressure for serious peace talks, a German government spokesman said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

"The pressure on Vladimir Putin for serious peace talks must be urgently increased", the spokesman said, adding: "He is yielding to pressure [...] yesterday's phone call also shows that this is a consequence of decisions based on statements from the American side".

US President Donald Trump said that he will meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Budapest, the British newspaper "Financial Times" wrote in the headline, quoted by BTA.

The US President announced the upcoming meeting in Budapest in a social media post after a long phone call with his Russian counterpart. He later said the meeting in Hungary would take place "within two weeks."

Yesterday's call, which the Kremlin said was at Putin's suggestion, came ahead of a planned White House meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later today, as Kiev seeks additional U.S. military support against Russian attacks.

Trump said after the call that senior U.S. and Russian officials would meet next week to prepare the ground for a meeting between him and Putin. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is also the national security adviser, will lead the American delegation, the British publication notes.

Russian President Vladimir Putin convened the country's Security Council last night in connection with his telephone conversation with his American counterpart Donald Trump, Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said today, quoted by TASS.

Putin presented the Security Council members with detailed information about the content of his conversation with Trump, Ushakov told journalists.

This was the eighth telephone conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States since the beginning of the year. The exchange of views, which lasted two and a half hours, was one of the longest telephone consultations between Putin and Trump this year, TASS notes.
