NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said that he had discussed the issue of sending "Tomahawk" missiles to Ukraine with US President Donald Trump and that it was still under consideration, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"Specifically, the president and I discussed the issue of "Tomahawk" missiles," Rutte said. "President Trump is still considering it, but, as I have said before, the final decision is up to the United States".
Rutte added that each allied country decides for itself what weapons to supply to Ukraine and that the United States has provided and will continue to provide a wide range of weapons.
Rutte arrived in London to meet with leaders of the "coalition of the willing" - a group of countries supporting Ukraine, Reuters recalls.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the aircraft carrier “Gerald Ford“ and the escorting warships from its group will be deployed in the area of responsibility of the US Southern Command, a Pentagon spokesman said, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
With this move, Washington significantly increases its presence in Latin America, including the number of troops and naval vessels in the region, the agency notes.
“The increased presence of US forces in this area will strengthen the US ability to detect, monitor and disrupt the illegal actions of individuals who threaten the safety and prosperity of our homeland, the United States, and our security in the Western Hemisphere“, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in “Ex“.
He did not specify when exactly the aircraft carrier will be deployed in the area.
