US President Donald Trump welcomed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to the White House today, with their talks expected to focus on energy cooperation, trade and the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Orban, a long-time ally of Trump, arrived at the White House at noon local time for their first bilateral meeting since the Republican returned to the presidency in January.
One of the topics the two are expected to discuss is Hungary's dependence on Russian oil amid Trump's attempts to deny countries around the world the raw material of such origin.
When welcoming Orban, the US president told reporters that they are possible exemptions for Hungary from sanctions on Russian oil, due to its heavy dependence on it.
“We are also looking at that, because it is difficult for them to take oil and gas from other places,“ Trump said.
