The European Union will intensify consultations on the 20th package of sanctions against Russia in the coming months, MEP Tomasz Zdechowski told the newspaper „Izvestia“.
„Whether it will be adopted by the end of 2025 remains unclear – it depends on the progress of the negotiations and the ability of all member states to reach a consensus. "However, I expect discussions to intensify in the coming months to maintain pressure on Russia," he noted.
Zdehovsky stressed that a complete visa ban for Russians is unlikely, as this would require a unanimous decision by all EU countries and changes to existing EU legislation.
According to the MP, Brussels is also considering the possibility of using proceeds from frozen Russian assets and other financial instruments.
Vladimir Dzhabbarov, first deputy chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, told the publication that Russia does not need to respond with reciprocal measures, noting that the restrictive measures will not cause significant harm to the country's citizens.
„They will invite them themselves. "Finland is already officially claiming that it is losing 1 million euros a day due to the lack of Russian tourists," the senator added.
The 19th package of EU sanctions came into force on October 24. Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the head of the EU's foreign service, Kaia Kalas, said that the EU would impose restrictions on Russian exports to reduce the capabilities of the Russian military-industrial complex.
