According to Arab media, he informed them that a new security agreement with Israel is being worked on. According to the president, Damascus wants the Israeli side to return to its borders from before the fall of Bashar Assad.
The Syrian leader is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House later today. Foreign Minister Asad al-Shaibani, who is also in Washington, said the two men would discuss a wide range of issues, including lifting sanctions on the country and improving relations between the United States and Syria.
According to the US special envoy to the Arab country, Tom Barrack, al-Sharaa is expected to sign an agreement to join the US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State group during his visit. He is also believed to be trying to negotiate US funding for Syria's reconstruction.
