Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden will provide a total of $500 million for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine through the international PURL mechanism (Priority Ukraine Requirements List), reports the official NATO website, reports News.bg.

PURL is a coordinated scheme for joint financing and supply of weapons, through which European allies order weapons from the United States and deliver them directly to the Ukrainian armed forces. The mechanism aims to avoid bureaucratic delays, standardize armaments with NATO, and provide rapid access to the ammunition and systems that Kiev needs most.

The program was launched in 2025, when several EU countries and Canada announced an initial contribution of $2 billion. The new tranche from northern European countries will be aimed at air defense systems, artillery ammunition, and electronic warfare equipment.

According to NATO, PURL allows donor countries to pool resources so that even small countries can participate in large orders through collective contracts with American manufacturers. This makes the mechanism one of the most flexible instruments for military assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the war.

Deliveries under the new package are expected to begin as early as December, with an emphasis on winter protection of Ukrainian cities from air strikes.
