Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong summoned Japanese Ambassador to Beijing Kenji Kanasugi to lodge a serious protest against Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's “scandalous remarks“ about China, the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported, quoted by BTA.
Last week, Takaichi made statements that hinted at the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Strait, Xinhua noted.
Despite serious protests from Beijing, it continues to refuse to change course and retract its words, Sun said, noting that China is deeply dissatisfied and has made serious demarches to the Japanese side.
Sun pointed out that Takaichi's remarks about Taiwan are extremely scandalous and dangerous, grossly violate international law and basic standards of international relations, seriously undermine the post-war international order, strongly contradict the one-China principle and the guiding principles set forth in the four Sino-Japanese political documents, severely undermine the foundation of Sino-Japanese relations, and greatly hurt the feelings of the Chinese people.
The Chinese vice foreign minister also stressed that the Taiwan issue is at the core of China's interests and is a non-negotiable red line.
“Taiwan is a sacred Chinese territory. Taiwan affairs are purely China's internal affairs. How to resolve the Taiwan issue is a problem that the Chinese people will solve and does not tolerate any interference from external forces,“ he stressed.
