Putin told Erdogan he wanted to resolve the Ukrainian crisis "politically"

The Russian side's interest in a political and diplomatic resolution of the Ukrainian crisis was reaffirmed, the Kremlin announced

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the US plan for ending the war in Ukraine during a telephone conversation on Monday, the Kremlin said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

"Vladimir Putin noted that these proposals, in the version in which they were considered, adhere to the discussions at the Russian-American summit in Alaska and can, in principle, be used as the basis for a final peace agreement", the Kremlin announced, referring to the meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska in August this year.

"The Russian side's interest in a political and diplomatic resolution of the Ukrainian crisis was reaffirmed," the statement also stated. Kremlin.

Turkish President Erdogan, for his part, told Putin that he was ready to support the peace process in any way possible, facilitating direct contact between Russia and Ukraine to achieve a "just and lasting peace", his office said. He suggested Istanbul, where the two sides held three rounds of peace talks earlier this year, as the venue for the peace talks.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Turkey would continue its efforts to end the war in Ukraine through a just and lasting peace, the online edition of the "Hurriyet" newspaper reported.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia, the war in Ukraine, regional and global issues by phone today, the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate reported.

"Our president said that as Turkey, we are ready to contribute to any diplomatic initiatives and plans that will facilitate direct contact between the (warring) parties and pave the way for lasting peace in our region, as we have done in the past," the Directorate's statement also states.
