On December 2, 1993, Colombian police killed notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar, whose life and activities have inspired many books and films.
Often called the “King of Cocaine”, Escobar became the richest criminal in history after amassing $30 billion as his drug cartel established a monopoly on the cocaine trade in the United States in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was a notorious Colombian drug lord. He is considered one of the most ruthless, ambitious and powerful dealers in history. He became so rich from the drug trade that Forbes magazine ranked him 7th on its list of the richest people in 1989, vesti.bg recalls.
On December 2, the day after his 44th birthday, after 16 months of hiding from the authorities, Escobar spoke to his son on the phone from a taxi, thus unknowingly confusing his pursuers who were trying to locate him through trilateration. At 3:03 p.m., he stops and enters a house, continuing to talk to his son on the phone.
At that moment, the authorities realized that if they didn't catch him now, they would have to wait a long time for another such opportunity. They broke into the house, and Escobar heard footsteps and told his son that he would call him later. After hanging up the phone, he took out his gun. Escobar and his bodyguard fired several shots, then jumped out of the window onto the neighboring roof. The two were killed by the authorities as they fled. Escobar was shot in three places, with one bullet fatally hitting his head.
