US President Donald Trump warned Israel to refrain from any intervention in Syria that could threaten the Arab country's transformation into a "prosperous state", after the Israeli armed forces invaded southern Syria on Friday, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
"It is very important that Israel maintains a strong and genuine dialogue with Syria so that nothing can prevent Syria from becoming a prosperous state," Trump wrote in "Truth Social", stating that the United States is very pleased with the results achieved by Damascus.
On Friday, Israeli forces invaded a village in southern Syria, killing 13 people, as reported by Damascus, and the Israeli army claims to have attacked an Islamist group.
After Since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad nearly a year ago, when he was ousted by an Islamist coalition, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes and incursions into Syria. Friday's operation was the deadliest of them, and the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned it as a "war crime."
Earlier last month, Donald Trump hosted Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House, during which al-Sharaa announced that Syria would join the international coalition against the Islamic State group.
"Syria's new President Ahmed al-Sharaa is working hard to ensure that only good things happen, and that Syria and Israel will have a lasting and prosperous relationship in the future. "This is a historic opportunity and it builds on the SUCCESS already achieved in achieving PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST," Trump wrote in "Truth Social."
After Assad was overthrown in December last year, Israel deployed troops to the demilitarized zone of the Golan Heights, beyond the demarcation line separating the territory annexed by Israel in 1981 from the rest of Syria, AFP recalls.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated during a visit last month to Israeli soldiers stationed in the buffer zone that the military presence there was "of enormous importance" to the Israeli side. He is demanding the demilitarization of all Syrian territory south of Damascus, up to the 1974 demarcation line established after the 1973 Arab-Israeli war.
This summer, high-level meetings were held between representatives of Israel and Syria, who indicated that they wanted to conclude a security agreement with the help of Washington and Paris.
