Germany does not need "advice coming from outside", German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said today in response to the US National Security Strategy, prepared by the administration of US President Donald Trump, which predicts "civilizational obliteration" of Europe and criticize the values of the continent, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
"Topics such as freedom of expression or the structure of our free societies cannot be discussed by Washington", Johan Vaddefull stressed at a press conference in Berlin with his Icelandic colleague Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir.
"Furthermore, we do not believe that anyone should give us advice on this issue, as this is regulated by the constitutional order of the state," the minister added.
In a document entitled "US National Security Strategy", the American president sharply criticizes Europeans and openly supports opponents of the values promoted by the EU, especially on the issue of immigration, AFP notes.
"If current trends continue, in 20 years or less, the continent (European) will be unrecognizable", the strategy published last night said.
"The United States is and will remain our most important ally in NATO, but the Alliance is based on defense and security issues," Wadeful noted. He stressed that it is also very important for Germany that the country's media is free - a topic that has recently sparked a dispute between Berlin and Washington.
In September this year, the German foreign minister advocated for media freedom, including in the United States, at a time when the White House was considering reducing the duration of visas for foreign journalists, AFP recalls.
