The Hungarian Foreign Minister announced today that he will block the adoption of the 20th package of European sanctions against Russia. The reason is the suspension of Russian oil supplies through the "Druzhba" pipeline, AFP reported, BTA reported.

"Tomorrow, the 20th package of sanctions is scheduled to be adopted at the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council. We will block this decision," Péter Szijjártó said on Facebook.

"Until the Ukrainians allow oil supplies to Hungary, we will not allow important decisions to be made for them," he added.

According to Ukraine, the oil pipeline that passes through its territory and supplies Russian oil to Slovakia and Hungary was damaged on January 27 by Russian strikes in the area of the city of Brody.

The new sanctions package includes measures against Russia's banking and energy sectors for its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

The EU has imposed a ban on most oil imports from Russia. But a temporary exemption was made for "Druzhba" to give Central European countries time to find alternatives.
