The Iranian Foreign Ministry has demanded security guarantees for a ceasefire in the conflict with the US and Israel, DPA reported, BTA reported.

"If a ceasefire is achieved or the war is ended, there must be a guarantee that aggressive actions against Iran will not be repeated," Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi said today. He argued that without such a guarantee, the ceasefire would be meaningless.

It was not the Islamic Republic of Iran that started the war and aggression, Garibabadi pointed out.

He stressed that Iran carried out its missile attacks in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, exercising its right to legitimate self-defense.

It is reported that in recent days several countries have tried to play the role of mediators to resolve the conflict. Among them, DPA notes, are China, Russia, France and, in the words of the Iranian deputy minister, some "countries from the region".
