NATO will always take the necessary actions to defend Turkey and all member states, said the Secretary General of the Alliance Mark Rutte during a visit to Ankara, quoted by Agence France-Presse and Anadolu Agency, BTA reports.
Rutte said that “Iran sows terror and chaos“ and pointed out that in recent weeks NATO systems have intercepted several ballistic missiles aimed at Turkey.
During his visit, he also visited the headquarters of the Turkish defense company Aselsan, praising the development of the local military industry and defining it as key to innovation in the Alliance.
The Secretary General also met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and is expected to hold talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The visit is part of the preparation for the upcoming NATO summit, which will be held in Ankara in early July.
