Russian President Vladimir Putin told the Council of Legislators that attempts to divide Russian society have failed because “they do not understand Russia“, TASS reports, quoted by BTA.

According to him, the country is facing serious and unprecedented challenges that must be overcome with unity and resilience, while at the same time one should not rely solely on restrictive measures.

“Our political system, all authorities at different levels, including parliament, have proven their stability and true sovereignty, as well as their readiness to protect the vital interests of the fatherland“, Putin pointed out.

He stressed that excessive administrative barriers can slow down development and that legislation should be “flexible, dynamic and future-oriented“.

“Russia is eternal“, the president also said, adding that society has responded to pressure and threats with cohesion, and the state - with quick legislative decisions.

Putin noted that if anyone thought that political pluralism could become a weakness of the country, he was mistaken, since he “does not know and does not understand Russia and its people“.

According to him, the legislative process must be systematic and aimed at real solutions, and not only at introducing new prohibitions and penalties, which he believes are counterproductive.

He added that the upcoming elections in Russia must be held in strict compliance with the law, so that the results are transparent and reflect the will of citizens.

“This is important always, but in the current situation it is especially important because it creates a stable basis for power and making timely decisions in the interests of the people,“ Putin said.
