Stoltenberg: US aid to Ukraine is not too late

Ukrainians have demonstrated great skills in defending their country, the Secretary General of the alliance emphasized

Military aid to Ukraine worth nearly 61 billion dollars, which the House of the representatives of the USA approved after months of disputes, it was not too late, but its delay caused real consequences, said the NATO Secretary General, quoted by DPA and BTA.

"The Ukrainians have been outgunned for four months," Jens Stoltenberg said this evening in an interview with the American television station MSNBC.

"The Russians had much more ammunition. And Ukraine was forced to distribute its own... But it's not too late. The Ukrainians demonstrated great skills in the defense of their country", emphasized the Secretary General of the alliance.

After months of deadlock, the US House of Representatives approved the bill for a new aid package with an overwhelming bipartisan majority, DPA recalls. The text is expected to be voted on midweek in the Senate, where no obstacles are expected, and signed by President Joe Biden.

Stoltenberg indicated that the presence of NATO forces in Ukraine is not planned. However, Kiev's allies from the alliance have the right to help it, and this does not make NATO a party to the conflict.

"Of course several NATO allies have men and women in uniform advising in embassies," Stoltenberg said in response to a question about publication by the publication "Politico", which claims that the US is considering sending more military advisers to Ukraine. They will not participate in combat operations, but will advise and support the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian military, the Politico article said.
