Independent candidates prevent Trump from overtaking Biden in race

Former president leads incumbent in head-to-head NBC poll

Former US President Donald Trump trails current US President Joe Biden on the level of support of American citizens in conditions where voters can choose other contenders for the presidency. This is shown by the results of a survey published on Sunday by the television company NBC.

Voters were asked who they preferred, choosing between Democrat Biden, Republican Trump, independents Robert Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West, and Jill Stein of the Green Party. 37% of those polled are for Trump, 39% are for Biden. 6% said they could not choose. The remaining 13% of the vote was split between Kennedy Jr., West and Stein.

But when respondents were asked to choose between Trump and Biden alone, the former president received 46 percent of the vote and the current president 44 percent. Another 10% of survey participants said they were undecided.

The statistical error of the results of the survey conducted on April 12-16 is 3.1 percentage points. 1 thousand people participated in it.

The US presidential election will be held on November 5. Trump has already received the necessary number of delegate votes to become the Republican nominee for President of the United States. Biden, who is running for a second term, secured the support of a sufficient number of delegates from the Democratic Party. Thus, the battle is expected to unfold between the same candidates as four years ago, when Biden defeated Trump, who was fighting for re-election to the highest public office.
