Ukrainians hiding from the army try to leave the country with bribes and fake documents

Preferred destinations are the borders with Moldova and Romania

Every day about 10 men try to leave the territory of Ukraine with fake documents. This was said by the spokesman of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko.

„Such cases are registered daily at the border. Those absconding from military service also try to bribe border officials," Demchenko said.

He noted that groups of employees of the State Border Service, together with Ukrainian law enforcement officers, are also operating in the border area to “preemptively detect attempts to cross the border illegally”. Among the most preferred destinations for those fleeing military service, he pointed to the borders with Moldova and Romania.

Since February 2022, general mobilization has been declared and repeatedly extended in Ukraine, while the country's authorities are doing everything possible to prevent men of military age from running away from service. However, the country faces acute problems with the recruitment of armed forces. Against this background, the task of recruiting another 500,000 people was set, and a law was passed to tighten the rules for mobilization. It tightens measures to avoid mobilization and expands the categories of those subject to conscription.
