Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview published today, says that supports China's plan for a peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

In an interview with China's Xinhua news agency ahead of Putin's visit to China this week, the Russian leader said Beijing understands the causes of the crisis in their entirety.

Putin also says that Russia is open to dialogue and negotiations to resolve the conflict, which has lasted for more than two years.

The Chinese plan and principles published last month by Chinese leader Xi Jinping take into account the factors behind the conflict, Vladimir Putin explained.

"We positively assess China's approach to solving the Ukrainian crisis," Putin told Xinhua, according to the Russian-language text of the interview posted on the Kremlin website.

"In Beijing, they really understand the causes of the crisis and its global geopolitical significance,", the Russian leader also said.

The additional principles for solving the crisis, which Xi Jinping put forward in the framework of his negotiations with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, are realistic and constructive steps that develop the idea that it is necessary to overcome the mentality of the Cold War, Putin pointed out.

More than a year ago, Beijing published a 12-point plan containing general principles for ending the war in Ukraine. The plan was welcomed by both Russia and Ukraine.
