Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered today outside the White House in Washington to express their anger against US President Joe Biden and his policy, which they described as too conciliatory towards Israel in its war against "Hamas" in Gaza, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
Chanting: “From (Washington) to Palestine, we are the red line!”, the demonstrators held up a long banner with the names of Palestinians killed by the Israeli army after eight months of conflict.
The US president has come under fire from those of his countrymen who believe he is not doing enough to influence the Israeli government and the way it conducts its military campaign in Gaza.
Since the beginning of the war in Gaza, Biden has offered Israel his unconditional support, but in March said that a large-scale offensive in Rafah was a “red line” that should not be crossed.
After the Israeli offensive in May against this city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, however, the White House said that this “red line” has not been crossed.
The demonstrators, most of whom were dressed in red, held Palestinian flags and placards reading: “Biden's red line is a lie” and “Bombing children is not self-defense“.
A few months before the presidential election, which will pit him against his rival and predecessor from the Republican Party, Donald Trump, Biden is under pressure to win the support of American Muslims and young voters, who are traditionally supporters of the Democratic Party, according to AFP. .
