Israeli Minister Benny Gantz said he is leaving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wartime government, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

Gantz heads the only centrist force in Israel's far-right cabinet, which has so far provided the cabinet with broader support for his government both in Israel and abroad.

Netanyahu urged Gantz not to “abandon the front” but indicated that this would not threaten the coalition's parliamentary majority, which has 64 MPs in the 120-seat legislature.

„Netanyahu is preventing us from progressing to a real victory. That is why today we are leaving the emergency government with heavy hearts but full of confidence," Gantz said at a press conference.

His resignation has been expected since he gave the prime minister until June 8 to present a clear strategy for the fate of the Gaza Strip after the war.

He was originally expected to announce his resignation from the government on Saturday, but postponed his announcement because of yesterday's operation to rescue four hostages held by “Hamas” in Gaza.
