North Korea announced today that it had successfully test-fired a multi-warhead missile yesterday heads, reported the Associated Press, quoted by BTA, specifying that this is a weapon with a complex design, with which the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un aims to overcome the anti-missile defense located on the continental United States.
The statement contradicts South Korea's claims of a failed test launch of various weapons by Pyongyang, AP notes.
The test was aimed at testing the resolution and guidance control of the warheads to verify the capabilities of the Multiple Independent Returnable Launch Vehicle, the North Korean Central Agency (KCTA) said in a statement.
The warheads separated from the launch vehicle "were correctly aimed at the three intended targets", and the "decoy" was detected by radar, clarifies KCTA.
This is the first launch of a missile with multiple warheads that has been made public, according to the AP. A multi-warhead missile was on the list of high-tech weapons systems desired by Kim at a party plenum in early 2021, the agency recalled.
