Making a surprise appearance in front of reporters a few minutes after being challenged at times by opponent Kamala Harris during their campaign debate, Donald Trump wanted to secure an additional podium, reports AFP , quoted by BTA.

As the confrontation between the two contenders had just ended, shouts of surprise could be heard from the entrance to the press room. Trump went to the hall, where the speakers and supporters of the candidates usually gather, to try to influence the opinion of the journalists present.

With cameras and microphones in hand, dozens of reporters huddled as close as possible to the US presidential candidate. The billionaire Republican answered questions from reporters, some of whom had to be held back by security agents at times.

„What about the black voters?“ asked a reporter who managed to shout above the surrounding noise. „I love them and they love me”, replied Donald Trump.

Amid the cacophony, other journalists tried to find out what Trump thought of the 90-minute debate, during which the 59-year-old Democrat attacked him mercilessly.

„Our country is in decline. We are a nation in decline. And I think when we brought that out into the open, they (Democrats) failed to defend themselves”, he added.

A few minutes later, Trump, still trailed by dozens of journalists, walked around the room to finally disappear behind black curtains.

We haven't seen a candidate come out to the press like this in years, said Aaron Cole of the University of Michigan. According to him, this shows that the Republican candidate wants to "change the subject as quickly as possible".

Both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are returning to the campaign trail today, less than two months before the Nov. 5 election. They will participate separately in ceremonies honoring the memory of the victims of the September 11 attacks, especially in New York, notes AFP.
