Now is the time for concrete proposals from Moscow and Kiev to end the war in Ukraine. The US will withdraw as a mediator if there is no progress. This was stated by State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce, citing a statement by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reports "Reuters".
"We are now at a time when both sides need to present concrete proposals on how to end this conflict, Bruce said. How we proceed from here is a decision that the president will make. If there is no progress, we will withdraw as mediators in this process," Bruce added.
She was referring to President Donald Trump, who is seeking to secure an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine.
We recall that earlier this week Rubio pointed out that the Trump administration would decide next week whether to continue to mediate. "It has to happen soon. We cannot continue to devote time and resources to this effort if it is not going to happen".
If Russia really wants a ceasefire, it should not wait until May 8 to stop its aggression, but can stop the violence now. This was stated at a briefing by the European Commission spokesperson Anita Hipper.
Her words were on the occasion of the ceasefire announced by Russian leader Vladimir Putin from May 8 to 11.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded that there is no need to wait until that date to stop the fighting, as this can happen immediately.
Ukraine has not responded to numerous proposals from Russian President Vladimir Putin to start direct peace talks and it is unclear whether it will join the three-day ceasefire he announced for next month. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
