Trump on Russia and Ukraine: They hate each other a lot

US President does not rule out meeting with Putin in Saudi Arabia

US President Donald Trump will consider meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia during a visit to the kingdom in mid-May.

On the South Lawn of the White House, reporters asked the head of state if he intended to meet with his Russian counterpart during his planned tour. “We should think about it. We will be going to Saudi Arabia very soon“, the head of state added.

Trump said he had “very good conversations” over the weekend about Russia and Ukraine.

“There is a lot of hatred between the two countries, but we have had some very good conversations in the last few days“, Trump added.

“You treat us so badly. The Wall Street Journal is really going to hell. Keep going. It's a crappy newspaper," the US president said.

Trump said he intends to decide on a candidate for a new national security adviser to replace Mike Walz within six months.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently combining the leadership of the State Department with the functions of assistant to the US national security leader. "I would say it will happen within six months," Trump said.

He confirmed that he is considering Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller as a leading candidate for the post. "I think indirectly he is already doing that job. He is an extremely valuable person," Trump said.

Walz most recently served as Trump's national security adviser. Trump nominated Walz for the post of US permanent representative to the United Nations. His appointment must be confirmed by the Senate. The procedure includes consideration by the Foreign Affairs Committee and a vote by the upper house of Congress.
