Israel strikes southern Beirut neighborhoods

Tel Aviv says it is targeting positions of Hezbollah's armed wing

The Israeli army carried out at least 17 strikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Al Jazeera reported.

According to the channel, areas in the southern part of the Lebanese capital were shelled by Israeli warplanes and drones. As the Lebanese TV channel LBCI specified, Israel carried out 6 direct and 10 warning strikes, 1 shell did not explode.

Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces spokesman's office reported that the Israeli military had begun striking targets of the 127th Air Force Unit of Hezbollah's armed wing in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.

Shortly before that, army spokesman Avichai Edri recommended that residents of several southern neighborhoods of Beirut immediately leave their homes. The last time Israel struck the outskirts of Beirut was at the end of April, since then only southern Lebanon has been subjected to shelling.
